Gammelgården Museum of Scandia Season Opening Day

Gammelgården Museum in Scandia officially kicks off its 2026 season this Saturday!

The museum preserves the heritage of Swedish immigrants through its collection of authentic 19th-century log buildings, letting visitors step back in time, experience the stories of Swedish immigrants, and relate them to their own family immigration stories.

To kick off the 2026 season, besides the amazing museum and buildings to explore, there will be an Arts, Crafts, and Vendor Fair, artist demonstrations, a Kids Entrepreneur Market, games, temporary tattoos for kids, beverages for purchase and local food trucks will be on site.

Free Comic Book Day

Tomorrow, May 2, is a big day for comics lovers with the annual Free Comic Book Day!

Each year, participating comic book shops around the world give away comic books absolutely free to customers. This year is no different with about a dozen Minnesota shops joining in.

We've attended these in the past and it's a fun time! Not only can you get the free comics but many stores will have extra events or in-store prize drawings as well. Plus you can check out new comics and the other stores the things have to offer like games, collectibles and more.

Starlite Drive-In Opening for the Season

Yes, the sign says April 24th, but due to unforeseen issues, the opening was pushed back to THIS weekend!

Located in Litchfield, about 60 miles west of the Twin Cities, it’s got your classic set up - drive in your car, find a spot, listen to the movie sound on your FM radio. There’s also an awesome concession stand and restrooms.

Drive-ins are few and far between these days, but you can also visit Long Drive-In Theatre in Long Prairie and Sky-Vu Drive-In Movie Theater (opening later this spring) in Warren.
